Burg Eltz

Last Sunday Alex and I decided to take a day trip to a nearby medieval castle. Dating back to the 12th century, Burg Eltz is unique because it is still owned by the original family.

When we got to the castle we met up with a friend from the women’s group, Amy and her family. We walked the scenic path to the castle and snapped a few pictures when the castle was finally in view. It is a really pretty sight with a beautiful view of lush forests and the Moselle River. When we got closer we even saw a deer coming out of the woods. Close by you can still see the ruins of enemy stone towers when they tried to gain a vantage point over the Eltz castle fortifications.

We decided to take the hour long tour through the castle. The tour takes you through a bunch of different rooms including a bedroom, kitchen and dining room with most of the original furnishings. I really enjoyed it!

Afterwards, we all decided to go to a little neighboring town called Beilstein. Amy and her husband had been there before and wanted to stop in and have a drink. It was a really cute little town! After walking around the shops we sat outside with some wine and dessert and chatted for a while. It was a fun, relaxing day and I’m sure we will be back to tour the castle again!
