Giethoorn, Netherlands

Let me just start by saying, this is my new favorite place. Everything about it is beautiful; the canals, the flowers, the tiny houses, the little bridges and the boats. Plus, no cars are allowed!

As beautiful as this place is, it’s no hidden gem. It can get really busy in the summer months. But Alex and I got really lucky. It was pouring all morning until about noon which is the exact time Alex and I arrived in Giethoorn. The rain kept everyone away for a while so we had the place to ourselves. Well, not really to ourselves but it wasn’t very busy. We walked up, down and over the canals until it was time for our boat ride. I had pre-booked us a boat for two hours that afternoon and I couldn’t wait. We were given instructions and a map and off we went. We got to drive through the tiny town for a while until the path opened up onto a big lake. Because it’s normally pretty busy, we were told it would take us about two hours to make the full loop around but it only ended up taking us a hour, so we did it again. It was a really fun day trip. We will definitely be back soon!

  1. Beautiful! Sunny, you drove the boat!
I wonder what it’s like to live in one of those quaint houses on the canal?
