Nuremberg

Last weekend Alex had to drive to Nuremberg for work so I decided to tag along. His meeting was on a Friday afternoon so we decided to stay the weekend. Once we got there, we headed to the old town to walk around for a while before our dinner reservations. We found an outside market, grabbed a bottle of wine (getting the bottle just financially made sense 😉), some bruschetta and olives and enjoyed the scenery for a while. Then we headed to dinner shortly afterwards. We had dinner reservations at a medieval restaurant. The food was delicious and we even got to keep two of the awesome glasses they serve the traditional Bavarian Keller Bier in.

Saturday consisted of a lot of history. We started by taking a tour of the castle overlooking the town of Nuremberg then headed to the Nazi Party rally grounds and the Zeppelin fields. This is where Hilter marched his troops and gave his infamous speeches. Our first stop was the museum with A LOT of information, then we walked over to where he actually gave his speeches and stood where he stood. Even though it’s been mostly destroyed and over grown (and sports teams now play in the fields) it’s still a very surreal feeling.

We ended the night by having dinner in a 600 year old restaurant and the oldest sausage house in the world. The choices were sausage or… sausage 😉. We choose the sausage (I ordered 6 and Alex ordered 8), and we weren’t disappointed! They were delicious!

Sunday on our drive home we decided to stop in a little town called Aschaffenburg. Alex’s grandpa was stationed there while he was in the US Army so we wanted to check it out. They had a big beautiful castle that you could tour and the surrounding areas were picturesque with the flowers in bloom. We walked around the castle and town for a few hours, it was fun! It was another great weekend in the books! Can’t wait to figure out where to go next. But first, a two week long trip home!
