I realized that I haven’t written much about Cologne yet. We are really starting to like it here and are slowly getting used to living the German life. At first I wasn’t sure how much I was going to like Cologne, but once it got warmer the city really started to come alive. For example, every Thursday they have a food truck market with all kinds of different foods to try or we can sit in a park/beer garden and drink outside with about 1,000 other people. We also found a guy that has a tiny shop and you just order beers through the window on the street (and we do, every Friday and Saturday 😉). And yes, you can totally drink out on the streets in Europe.
You just never know what you are going to stumble upon while walking around, that’s one of the best parts about living in a big city like Cologne. The other day we walked into a huge group gathered around the “traveling music train” which is basically how it sounds; a group of people that sing traditional German songs in the middle of the sidewalk. Or the cool traditions they have, for example the night of April 30 they have parties to celebrate May Day and Tanz in den Mai or “dance into May” where the men are suppose to cut down a birch tree for their women and decorate it with ribbons and hearts but because this year was a leap year the women had to do it for the men (we didn’t know about it until that night – sorry Alex!). Plus, they just opened up this awesome new restaurant by us that consists entirely of fries and by that I mean everything on the menu includes fries! A bunch of different toppings thrown on top of a basket of fries, what could be better? I should stay far way from that place…right after I try everything on the menu!
Even though it’s so different from home that’s one of the reasons we like it, because we will probably never get to experience anything like this again. We are interested to see what summer in Cologne brings us. I hear they have a 10 day long wine festival which starts at 10am everyday. Woohoo!
Here are so pictures of the weird/cool/interesting things we find while walking around Cologne.

Wow..great pictures! I hope they have the wine festival while we’re there!
