Weihnachtsmarkt!

The Christmas markets have started in Cologne! Because Cologne is pretty big, we have a total of 7 different Christmas markets throughout the city! Yes, you read that right, seven! When walking up to these markets the first thing you notice is how amazing they are decorated. A lot of time and effort are put into making everything look perfect. Little houses all decorated selling everything from Christmas ornaments to soap shaped like the Cologne Cathedral. Then you notice stand after stand of different kinds of meat, Reibekuchen (potato pancakes) and of course delicious Glühwein sold in the cutest glasses. And the best part about the Christmas markets, they each have a different theme!

The main market is the one right in front of the cathedral, the theme is of course the Dom. The market closest to our apartments theme is St. Nikolaus and they give the cutest Glühwein glasses shaped like boots! The one near the Rhine River is a pirate themed market. There are two in between those. One is angel themed and the other has a fun Cologne fairytale, called Heinzelmännchen as the theme and even has a huge ice skating rink in the center. There is also one in a park that doesn’t have a theme but is known for selling different handmade things. And last but not least, the gay and lesbian market which just sounds like a good ole party with its pink and blue decorated tents. Oh, and they have one in a neighboring town that is medieval themed! How cool!

That’s where you’ll find me until I head back home for Christmas! If I can still afford the flight after all my purchases 😀
