Czech Republic

Alex had a few days off for Easter so we decided to take a trip to the land of cheap beer, the Czech Republic.

Our first stop in Czech Republic was charming Cesky Krumlov. It was such a cute little town and we had no trouble exploring it in a few hours. We walked through the castle grounds that for some odd reason housed a bear, got a delicious trdelnik (sweet doughy bread sprinkled with cinnamon), then grabbed a cheap ($1.70) Czech beer. We had a delicious dinner then found a bar where we listened to live music for the rest of the night. The two guys playing happened to be from Nashville doing a three month long international tour.

The next day we were off to Prague. On the drive to Prague we stopped at the Sedlec Ossuary church aka “church of bones.” The Sedlec Ossuary is decorated with more than 40,000 human skeletons. They have 4 huge pyramids of bones, a shield of bones, chandeliers etc. We even saw two men digging up bones next to the church (they found a skull!). It was one of the most interesting churches we have ever seen.

After that we headed to Prague for the remainder of our trip. We stopped at the Easter market to grab some food and a beer. Then we walked around and explored some of Prague’s main attractions until it was time for our ghost tour. A man dressed in a cape holding a lantern, walked us through Prague telling us creepy stories about places around the area.

We woke up early the next morning to walk across Charles Bridge without the huge crowd then stopped to admire the very colorful Lennon Wall. Then it was time for the beer spa. Alex and I were most excited about the spa. We got to the spa and were immediately escorted to our own private room. We were then given quick  instructions while the woman added the beer mixture to the bath. Once it started bubbling we got in and enjoyed 30 minutes in the tub with our own personal beer tappers right next to us. After the time was up we laid on a bed of straw (a sheet over the straw so it wouldn’t stick to us, of course) which was surprisingly comfortable and relaxing. And we got to eat beer bread while drinking unlimited beer. It was awesome! We spent the rest of the day hitting the rest of the touristy spots.

We had a 7 hour drive back to Köln the next morning. It was a great Easter weekend!

  1. All of it sounds really cool but the beer spa tops them all, bragging rights for sure! Another successful trip!

  2. Another great trip for you.  Very Interesting.  Grandpa and I enjoyed Easter Brunch with your Mom and Dad and Megan and Joe.  Delicious food and warm day.  Grandpa and I are doing fine.  Went on a casino trip w/ police retires to Diamond Joes in Dubuque Iowa.  We both won a little.  Working in the yard, and planting flowers.  Nice weather now.  Your new apt.looks really nice.  Take care.  love to hear from you.    love Grandma
